Therapeutic HoldingTherapeutic Holding and other “Holding Therapies”
Because safety if paramount in a therapy session, therapeutic holds are used to protect the child from hurting self or others. However, unlike some other therapies, we do not deliberately provoke a child to anger, we do not share our own feelings of frustration, nor do we use it to process children’s earlier experiences and feelings. Therapeutic holds are used only for safety concerns, are used in a positive nurturing fashion, and are discontinued when the child is safe and “in control” of his/her body.
